The credit report is a gathered record of all credit and loan payments and balances. It is collected by three major credit reporting companies from most of the financing companies. The credit reporting agencies then combine all obtained information about loan balances and payments into a credit report. It is important to know, however, that not all lenders report to all three credit reporting companies. Therefore, often we need to check all three reports to have complete information about our credit activity. The credit activity report provides information about a total amount of loans and credit limits. It contains records of payment history, including the amount and date of payments. It shows all missed and defaulted payments. The credit report includes a list of credit inquiries from various businesses along with other financial and employment information. The federal law entitles people to receive one free copy of credit report from each national credit reporting bureaus every year.

About Credit Score
A credit score is derived from formulas that are calculated using credit information obtained from current credit reports. It represents a value of overall credit worthiness. Lenders use credit scores to estimate the risks when providing loans or credit cards. The higher the credit rating, the safer it is for lenders to approve financing.  Please remember that credit score and credit report are not the same. A credit report is a compiled and analyzed information from a credit bureau, while a credit score is a result of calculations based on credit report information. Since each credit reporting agency has its own credit activity-analyzing model, an individual receives three different scores within the same credit score range. There are several credit score types. However, the most well-known types of credit score are FICO and Vantage Scores. They mainly evaluate  from 300 to 850 with five conditional credit rating ranges.
300-529  Very Poor
530-619   Fair
620-719   Good
720-799   Excellent
800-850   Exceptional
Please note that the law does not require the credit reporting companies to provide a free credit score.
